Broncos & that other team

The Broncos were responsible for relieving me of an extra $10 this week to my father-in-law. In hindsight maybe it was a sucker bet the way that other team has been playing and all, but I was hoping they'd shake this funk they're in. Somehow, I always hope that they're just trying to make the season interesting and are going to pull some come-storming-in-at-the-end-of-the-season stunt just to prove they can. If that's your plan guys, then start storming already, cause I'm starting to get nervous.

My lovely wife was, of course thrilled with the Denver victory. This is the one game we always know ahead of time that one of us isn't going to like the outcome. We even went to see the New England-Denver MNF game on our anniversary. Some might think that silly, but I'm fortunate to have married a football-lovin' woman... even if she is a Denver fan. *smirk*

So, I'm sad this morning, but this poster would help.

iTunes 6.0 PHP Scripts III

I think we'll all have to resign to waiting to see what happens with the iTunes Music Store. First it works, then it doesn't, then it does, then it doesn't... The links to free videos from the Artist pages are being removed too, apparently as I type this. So I think it's pretty safe to say that they're going away. I updated the iTunes Music Video script to be able to get the videos that were still there, but even now if I go into iTunes and click on a video link from an artist page (e.g. Avril Lavigne) I get a the error "Your request could not be completed. The item you requested is not available in the US store." So... go get all the previews you want with the iTunes Music Video Preview script or look around the inside with the iTunes Music Store XML script.

iTunes 6.0 PHP Scripts II

UPDATE: It seems Apple is fast on the move removing any trace of a free video. See this post.

Quentin posted a comment informing me that there are still free videos at the iTMS (e.g. Avril Lavigne and Sarah McLachlan) so I reworked the iTunes Music Videos script to stop giving "Item Not Available" errors. It's still not going to download pay content. I also made a few fixes to the XML which you can use to see how the others are working.

UPDATE: Quentin posted a comment informing me that there are still free videos at the iTMS. See this post.

Things change. iTMS changes too. From this last post you can see that we're no longer able to download music videos since they've become pay content.

We can, at least for the exercise, download the previews of the videos and that script is now available. There's no encryption on it right now. That may change. I'm sure that Apple will make a number of changes in the next few weeks as things settle down from the release of video content. I've also created a script that will return the links and the raw XML from an iTMS URL. Hope this will pacify and give you something to do. As always, be responsible...

iTunes 6.0 Music Videos

Apple released iTunes 6.0 today. The script to download iTunes music videos mentioned in this previous post did continue to work with the new version UNTIL changes to the iTunes Music Store content changed making the music videos pay content. At that point, the script stopped working because the links to the videos themselves had changed or been removed.

The script itself was NOT designed to download content which you had to (a) be logged in to get or (b) pay for.

There are other projects that strip DRM like hymn (which is where I got the twofish-key code) but even they don’t purpose downloading pay content for free. It’s probable that the script could be changed to download the previews, but really, what’s the point in that. The iTunes Movie Trailer script is still working (for now) as the links have not changed.

Patriots 3-2...

...but not before nearly giving me a coronary. We can all thank Adam Vinatieri that I still have a pulse this morning. This poster would help too.

UNEASYslience How-To II

UNEASYslience has made a follow up Wink video showing how to use the iTunes Movie Trailers script which he is also hosting. I'm guessing people are just not understanding the Right-Click-Copy-iTunes-Music-Store-URL (RCCiTMSURL for short? heh heh). But thanks to them for hosting the script and for the how-to. No one asks me, so I'm glad someone is answering questions about it. Be kind, he has a blog to run. *grin*

Red Sox out of playoffs

Not sure what else to say. Guess I'll watch some House.

UNEASYslience How-To

UNEASYslience has posted a and Wink tutorial that explains in painstaking detail how to use the iTunes Music Videos script. You wouldn't think this kind of thing would be necessary, but he gets a lot more readers than I do so he apparently gets asked the question a lot. View it here.

iTunes Music Album Art

I came across an intersting derivative script using a modified version of the iTunes Music Videos script that pulls the album art from a copied iTunes Album URL. Very cool. There doesn't appear to be much else at that sight.

iTunes 5.0.1 Movie Trailers

It doesn't use encryption, it doesn't use gzip, and it isn't quite as interesting as the iTunes Music Videos script from this earlier post, but it does the job. Without further ado, for your enlightenment and review, is the how-to download iTunes Movie Trailer script. Remember that... with knowledge comes responsibility.

Additionally, I've updated the iTunes Music Videos script to honor the size of the video you copy the URL from.

Sports fanatic roller-coaster

The Patriots let me down again on Sunday (putting me $5 down in an ongoing wager with my father-in-law) but the Red Sox managed to make their third straight post season. In true Red Sox fan fashion, I won't hold my breath for another World Series appearance, let alone a Championship... well, okay... I'll hold it just a little.

I'll mention here, of my own volition, that my wife was overwhelmingly happy (as was her Dad) that the Broncos won.

The roller-coaster continues...
