Puzzllotto Solution

Here's the solution to Puzzllotto... I figured it out around 2:00 MDT the day after Dave Hayden submitted his solution (and just after he posted that he had been called with confirmation of his win). I'm really happy for Dave (and I'm uploading all this using Transmit, so I guess he wins again)... I'm really bummed, though, that I didn't solve it first. I don't even know if I was second, so perhaps the United Lemur crew will release a list. Here's the details:

Level 1 & 3 Layout

Level 2 & 4 Layout

Level 1 & 2 Solution

Level 3 & 4 Solution

Puzzllotto Solution

(Read these from top to bottom and towards the butterflies or the closest side if there is no butterflies, e.g. 101=5)

The Win

Finally... format the 10 numbers you get and reach out to Norwalk, CA (let your fingers do the walking).

Could you explain the final screen a bit more?

like specifically, which "Stage" do you perform this final solution on?

I've had this solution picture since about 30 minutes after the release of Puzzllotto, I just never understood what it meant. Frankly, it still eludes me fully. I understand it somewhat.

So long as you had that screen, you could actually stop playing. You only need to read the numbers from top to bottom, towards the butterflies. Use the Level 1 & 2 Solution image for help, e.g. 101=5

I understand now, I feel like a complete idiot... its the phone number in binary... duh.

Nice work!

I had guessed that the final screen had to be decoded into a phone number once I noticed there were 10 rows and had been working on a spreadsheet charting all "valid" moves when the solution was announced, but I still don't think I would have come up with the final answer. Bravo for 2nd place.

At what point did it "click" for you and all fall into place? Did anything specifically trigger in your brain and send you down this path?

I kept playing level 1 over and over since I felt like it was a limited solution (only used 4 positions). Once I stopped trying to figure out what order things should be pushed (i.e. what gets pushed after what) and instead focused on the overall state of the board (i.e. what was what in every position when a new butterfly was found) did it become obvious. And I only did this after NOT playing for several days and instead just staring at a screenshot of the solution screen. Once you figure out that the pattern is binary (though I argue if you wrote down the "Level 1 & 2 Solution" chart above you don't need to know binary) it's easy to decode the ultimate solution, which I too felt was a phone number given 10 meaningful lines. Early on I felt like the first 3 butterflies on Level 1 were binary-esque, but I was too focused on the order of things, on which I wasted way too much time, instead of the state of things.

I posted my interpretation of the Puzzllotto hints that United Lemur gave out each day. If you're interested, read them here.

Thank you for posting up your solution here Benjamin! I was able to solve all the levels but didn't know how to solve the actual game. Now that you have this solution set up I can actually solve this game.

Thanks for the solution Benjamin. I was curious about what this whole puzzllotto thing was all about. One thing I'm wondering though. Do you ever arrive to the solution screen or is this just flashed? I tried it out and when I got through the fourth level the choices either brought me back to level 1 or repeated level 4.

Ryan, the solution screen (the same one that flashes in the background in between levels) is access by tapping out the "Congratulations!" menu box after completing level 4. Just tap near the edge of the screen and the box will fade away and the solution screen appears. If you then tap the solution screen the menu box fades back in.
