Patriots defenseless on MNF
I feel sorry for all those people in Foxborough who paid good money to go watch the Patriots play a football game with no defense at all. Having to watch half the team play must have been pretty upsetting. After the third quarter, I decided a two week old episode of Survivor on Tivo was more and would piss me off less (even if only slightly).
Observations that might help you: Pretend you actually want to win (starting in the first half). Play with a defense. Don't fumble the ball. Complete passes. Don't onside kick unless you REALLY have to. Return kickoffs. Get within field-goal range (ever). And for the love of all that is right and just, get first downs.
You started the season saying that you're "not defending Champions" because "everyone is trying to win." You proved that, except for that everyone part. Does every New England team in every sport always have to get in on a wild-card and put on some dramatic underdog show? Just win, already. If I believe you can, why can't you?
It may seem I'm a little hard on the New England boys, but damn it... you're supposed to be the new dynasty team and it's only because I love you. Damn.
Now I'm seriously needing a poster (or a calendar). Seriously.

So here we are 40 days later than your ridiculous assesment of New England sports. The Patriots have started to come together and do the same things that they are used to doing. They are about to use their experience to bust the NFL up and put the Colts to task as well as any other team. But I must say that your query: "Does every New England team in every sport always have to get in on a wild-card and put on some dramatic underdog show?" is pretty ignorant. The Red Sox are the team that wins by virtue of "Wild Card" and that is largely due to the fact that they are stuck in a division with a great team named the "Yankees." But they never played the "underdog" card. The Patriots have won their division in all but one of their Super Bowl appearances. The only SB they visited as a wild card was 20 years ago.
Well, Anonymous, if that is your real name ;-) I expected someone to come along and tell me how wrong I was. Congratulations, it's you. There's no prize, but I'll respond anyway. My assessment may be ridiculous but that's because it's not an assessment in the traditional sense, it's an emotional response to seeing my favorite team lose (again). I'm not trying to argue stats or pull out the history books and figure out when was the last time the Patriots defense failed to show up. When they lose, I wish they hadn't. I spend all day being rational about things, this is football. Just as much as any other guy, I want to be able to say "My team kicked your team's butt," on Monday morning, and the Patriots made that a little difficult this year. The Patriots ended up winning the AFCE this year, so you certainly can't say they're in a division with a great team. Anyone who doesn't feel a little upset after their team loses wasn't watching or doesn't care. But I do love to watch 'em and I do care if they win. What I don't understand is how you can come here and call the Yankees "great." That was just low. Thanks for the comment. Nice to know someone reads this thing if it isn't about downloading iTunes songs.
